Get the Look: Sabrina Carpenter's Faux Bob Grammys Updo

Sabrina Carpenter pulled off a hair switchup at the 2025 Grammys, stunning fans on the red carpet with her hair in an uncharacteristic updo that mimicked a Marilyn Monroe-style short bob. She then transitioned to her traditional cascading, big-barrel waves with curtain bangs for her performance of "Espresso" and "Please Please Please."

Celebrity stylist  Evanie Frausto created her curly updo "to highlight the dramatic open-back silhouette and beautiful diamond necklace she’s wearing," he says. It perfectly complemented her Old Hollywood-style, marabou-trimmed gown designed by Jonathan Anderson.

Then, he transitioned Carpenter's hair to her signature waves to top off her Grammys performance in two custom crystal-encrusted Dolce & Gabbana creations: a black-and-white tuxedo-inspired bodysuit, and a blue-on-blue strapless satin-and-lace bodysuit.

The pop sensation (and Redken’s first ever Global Ambassador) took home two of her six Grammy nominations this year for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance.

Here is how Evanie achieved both hair looks using Redken products:

Step by Step: Red Carpet Faux Bob

“First, Sabrina shampooed and conditioned her hair using the Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Shampoo and Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Conditioner to deeply nourish and moisturize. After rinsing, we applied Redken Quick Blowout from roots to ends for heat protection and smoothness. While her hair was still damp, we worked in Redken Stay High Mousse, brushing it through for even distribution. To add extra volume, we applied a touch of Redken Root Lifter at the crown.

"For the blowout, we used the L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro along with a 1.25-inch metal round brush, setting the hair for maximum body and movement. Once the blowout was complete, we curled her hair with a one-inch iron, pinning each curl to set. As the curls cooled, we misted Redken Control Hair Spray all over for added hold.

"After the curls had set, we took them down and brushed them out to create soft, effortless waves. Then, with a swift and seamless touch, I styled a French twist at the back — keeping it polished yet relaxed.

"We ensured the shape remained clean and structured, while in the front, we left soft, flirty texture to create the illusion of a chic, short haircut. Of course, we styled her signature bangs, enhancing the effortless, sultry vibe. The final look was an undone yet refined updo — capturing that perfect balance of glamour and spontaneity, like the effortlessly sexy aftermath of a night out.”

Step by Step: Performance Waves

“For Sabrina’s performance look, we transitioned from the updo she wore on the carpet, refreshing her hair by lightly dampening it with water and a touch of Redken Quick Blowout. We then quickly dried it with our hands using the  L’Oréal Professionnel AirLight Pro to smooth out any kinks from being pinned up.

"Once the hair was prepped, we used a ¾-inch curling iron to curl the top section — everything above the occipital bone — setting it for added shape and movement.

"For the bottom half, we opted for a ½-inch curling iron, creating extra bounce and volume at the ends. As the curls set, we misted Redken Control Hair Spray throughout for hold before taking them down.

To enhance the texture, we applied Redken Dry Texture Spray giving the hair a soft, brushed-out, fluffy finish. We then locked in the look with another light mist of Redken Control Hair Spray, perfected her signature bangs, and that was it — the perfect voluminous and glamorous style for her performance.”
