To create vivid sculptural hair arcs complementing BruceGlen's latest collection at New York Fashion Week, celebrity hairstylist, educator, and all-textures expert Monaè Everett turned to the brand's fan base: people who embrace color, stand out, and lean into individual expression.
Everett served as the sustainable design house's lead hairstylist during The Bomb Fashion Show by Fashion Bomb Daily. There, the brand celebrated its 20th anniversary with the exuberant "Through the Fire" Fall/ Winter 2026 collection, a "see now, buy now" line.
Everett used Bask & Lather products to create statuesque braided looks that paired bold runway impact with an intentional approach to moisture, scalp care, and the hairline.
BruceGlen affectionately calls people who wear the brand the #BrightOnes, and Everett used their spirit as the foundation for the hair direction. “The #BrightOnes aren’t afraid to be seen. They’re bold, they lean into their individuality, and they allow what makes them different to become part of the statement," Everett says.
"The hair needed to carry that same energy."
The Inspiration
Everett began with the idea of a rainbow, drawing from the collection's vibrant color story while translating that energy into shape and movement rather than simply adding more color. Sculptural braided loops created the silhouette, while loose ends kept the finished look playful and alive.
“A rainbow is powerful because every color gets to exist individually and still create something beautiful together," Everett says. "That felt connected to the #BrightOnes and to the models we were styling."
The show gave Everett the opportunity to work with models across a range of hair textures, a core part of her approach to runway hairstyling.
“Great hairstyling isn’t about forcing every person to start with the same canvas," she says. "It’s understanding the texture in front of you and knowing how to create from there."
Another non-negotiable for Everett: maintaining the models' hair and scalp health. “Fashion Week models may sit in several hairstylists’ chairs within just a few days," she says.
"The final look matters, but so does thinking about what the hair and scalp may have already experienced. Preventative care can be part of the styling process."
The Inspo
- Rainbow: "The starting point was a rainbow: bold individual colors coming together without any one of them having to disappear."
- Individual Expression: "BruceGlen celebrates people who show up fully as themselves. The hair needed that same confidence, freedom and individuality."
- Shape + Movement: "Instead of simply repeating the colors in the collection, the energy was translated into shape. The loops created the drama, while the loose ends kept the hair playful and alive."
Step by Step
- Condition + Prep. Lightly dampen the hair, then apply Bask & Lather Leave-In Conditioner throughout the strands to add moisture, condition the hair, and prepare it for styling.
- Scalp + Hairline Care. Apply Bask & Lather Scalp Solution to the scalp and around the hairline before styling. For models moving through a demanding Fashion Week schedule, this adds a scalp-focused care step while helping the stylist remain mindful of areas that may experience repeated tension and manipulation.
- Smooth. Apply Bask & Lather Edge Tamer throughout the hairline and where needed to smooth the hair and help secure the sections.
- Create the Foundation. Gather the hair into three ponytails positioned vertically down the center of the head to create a mohawk formation.
- Braid + Sculpt. Braid extension hair into each ponytail. Form the braids into loops and pin them securely into place, leaving the ends loose for movement and dimension.
